Lorde, the classiest new pop Kiwi.

I discovered Lorde on Tumblr. I didn’t know she was a singer, I had no idea what she was into, but I fell in love with her hair.

That’s the beginning of my story with Lorde. But now, she’s number one in the US Charts, with her single « Royals ».

Lorde for Billboard Magazine

Lorde is a (very) young and talented woman from New Zealand. Her first EP,  » The Love Club » has been released in March 2013 and her debut album,  » Pure Heroine  » in September.

It is quite hard to describe Lorde music. Minimalist in a certain way, some songs (as « Bravado ») remind me of my beloved James Blake. You will appreciate it or not, but you can hear that there’s almost no auto-tune at all added to her voice, which provides her a very raw and pure sound.

All my life
I’ve been fighting a war
I can’t talk to you or your friends
It’s not only you
My heart jumps around when I’m alluded to
This will not do

Cause I was raised up
To be admired to be noticed
But when you’re withdrawn it’s the closest thing
To assault when all eyes are on you
This will not do

Bravado – Lorde

Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor, or Lorde, is the daughter of Vic O’Connor and Sonja Yelich, who’s a prize-winning New-Zealand poet and you can feel her l0ve for reading and writing in the texts she writes. I’ve been amazed to learn that she was only sixteen, ’cause you can feel such a cold maturity when listening to her words…

So yes, Lorde is a phenomenon. But don’t be afraid of giving her a go : she’s really worth it.

and here’s my little recommandation for what to begin with :
